Alert - Flash Flood Watch - Sunday, 9/4/22 - Monday, 9/5/22

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the Rutherford Mountains and surrounding areas. 

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of western NC and upstate SC including the following areas, in western NC, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Northern Jackson, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, Swain and Transylvania. In upstate South Carolina, Central Greenville, Greater Pickens, Greenville Mountains and Pickens Mountains.

* WHEN...Sunday through Monday evening.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - Persistent moist southerly flow will support heavy rainfall along and near the southern Blue Ridge Escarpment and into the western NC Mountains. Repeated heavy rain showers and thunderstorms may result in flash flooding. The threat of heavy rain will continue through the day Monday.
