Winter Storm Warning (1/10/25 AM Update) - 1/10/25 - 1/11/25

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS  NOW ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FROM 7 AM FRIDAY TO 7 AM EST SATURDAY.

WHAT: Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations between 2 and 8 inches and ice accumulations around two tenths of an inch.

WHERE: A portion of western North Carolina.

WHEN: From 7 AM Friday to 7 AM EST Saturday. 

IMPACTS: Snow and ice accumulations will make many roads treacherous and impassable. The weight of the snow and ice on tree limbs and power lines could produce scattered outages. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation. Slow down and use caution while traveling. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

BE PREPARED: Here are some key tips to help you stay safe and prepared:

Before the Storm

1. Stock up on essentials - Ensure you have enough food, water, medications, and pet supplies for at least 72 hours.
2. Prepare your vehicle - Check your car’s tire pressure, fuel levels, and have an emergency kit (blankets, flashlight, batteries, etc.) in case you get stranded.
3. Winterize your home - Insulate pipes, clear gutters, and check for drafts. Make sure your heating system is working.
4. Charge devices - Fully charge your phone, laptops, and other important electronics. Consider a portable power bank.

During the Storm

1. Stay indoors - Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
2  Keep warm - Dress in layers and keep your home heated safely.
3. Monitor conditions - Stay updated via local news, weather apps, and emergency alerts.
4. Check on neighbors - Especially those who are elderly or have special needs.

After the Storm

1. Shovel safely - If you need to clear snow, take frequent breaks and avoid overexertion.
2. Avoid downed power lines - If you see any, stay clear and report them to authorities immediately.
3. Drive cautiously - If you must travel, drive slowly and be cautious of icy roads.
