Town of Lake Lure Employment Opportunity - Parks, Recreation, and Lake Director
The Town of Lure is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Parks, Recreation, and Lake Director. This position will enforce laws and ordinances created by the Marine Commission, an entity created by the State of North Carolina. The incumbent will perform complex work in managing the Town-owned 800+ acre recreation lake, including enforcement, permitting, lake inspection and patrols, water sampling and testing programs, fisheries, and lake activities. The incumbent performs challenging professional and management work planning, organizing, and directing the Town’s Parks, Recreation, and Lake Department. Strong knowledge of the Town of Lake Lure and the surrounding areas and landscapes is preferred. The Ability to work with local and non-local contractors to secure job projects, to value jobs to be considered by the Town, and to solicit proposals on projects is also preferred.
An employee in this class must be a North Carolina sworn law enforcement officer and have the ability to manage the parks, trails, and the lake, along with providing public safety for the Town. This employee plans, organizes, and directs the work of employees engaged in various park, trails, and lake services. Work involves extensive project management for the varied services, including lake enforcement, boat permitting, coordination of lake activities, and fisheries management, as well as park and trail maintenance. This employee provides park, trail, and lake advice and assistance to the Town Manager and provides staff support to the police department.
Work also includes coordination of lake activities during emergencies, use and management of Town-owned boats, personnel management, and maintenance of records, maps, and logs. This employee maintains the budget and personnel administration of the department. Sound judgment, initiative, and courtesy is required in the performance of these duties. The employee is subject to working in both inside and outside environmental conditions, severe storms, floods, noise, vibration, hazards associated with parks, trails, and lake work, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils.
The director manages the short-term plans and day-to-day activities through professional, technical, or other staff including the selection, training, appraisal, and supervision of permanent and temporary staff and coordination of volunteers. Work requires extensive public contact with private groups, civic organizations, local officials, and the general public in the promotion, development, and direction of the parks, recreation, lake, building, and grounds maintenance program. Working during some nights and weekends is required.
This position is an exempt position with a salary range between $65,315 -$97,975. You may download the employment application.
