Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) Public Meeting Summary
The Town of Lake Lure conducted a public meeting and comment period on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Lake Lure Town Hall, 2948 Memorial Highway, Lake Lure, NC. The purpose of this public meeting was to receive citizen input pertaining to a North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) Grant the Town is applying for to obtain funding to develop recreational facilities at Morse Park located at 2926 Memorial Hwy, Lake Lure, NC. If awarded, the Town of Lake Lure is planning to use these funds to assist with the development of Morse Park including a playground, picnic area, paved walking path, and restrooms. The following is an overview of the Morse Park Phase I Project:
- The project promotes redevelopment and enhancement of a significant community recreation asset for the Town.
- It includes a renovated paved path, poured-in-place universal design playground, and picnic area.
- The enhancements are focused on serving children and veterans with disabilities.
Justification for the project includes:
- Existing ADA facilities in Town parks are limited.
- Morse Park is located centrally in the Town on a flat site with mountainous views.
- The site features ADA connectivity to the Lake Lure Town Walkway, Flowering Bridge, Beach and Water Park.
- The Park is adjacent to the Town of Lake Lure Municipal Center, the Rutherford County Welcome Center, and Washburn Marina.
