Town of Lake Lure - Lake Use Regulations Updates

Lake Lure by Clint Calhoun

The Lake Advisory Board has been working to update the Lake Use Regulations. The goal of the updated Lake Use Regulations is two-fold:

1) To increase water activity safety in Lake Lure through updated regulations backed by improved compliance measures.

2) To increase boat operator personal responsibility through required training (licensing) and regulations awareness.

The Board has conducted a comprehensive analysis of the Lake Use Regulations, which were based on the 2006 Boat Study and Lake Use Model. The Board's recent study included the following:

  • a review of State regulations;
  • research on emerging watercraft technologies;
  • consideration of citizen concerns and input;
  • an assessment of the increased pressure on lake usage due to expanded development on Lake Lure.

The Lake Advisory Board Meetings are open to the public.  The meetings are posted on the Town of Lake Lure Website and the next meeting is scheduled for 8/1/22 at 3:30 in the Lake Lure Municipal Hall.

A presentation of the revised Lake Use Regulations is scheduled to be presented at the 9/13/22 Marine Commission Meeting which will be held at 4:00 PM in the Lake Lure Municipal Hall.  A draft of the revised Lake use Regulations will be available for public review prior to the meeting and will be available on the Town of Lake Lure Website.  The Marine Commission Meeting will include a Public Hearing to ensure all public comments will be heard.
