Mayor Carol Pritchett welcomed WLOS News 13's Weekend Morning Meteorologist and Reporter Meghan Danahey to Lake Lure on Monday, May 23, 2022.  WLOS is doing a feature on Rutherford County NC for their annual series called "Road Trippin."

Mayor Pritchett shared that Lake Lure truly is one of the gems of the Carolinas and thanked the station for stopping in town for an update!  Meghan asked Mayor Pritchett about Rutherford Bound and how this partnership had benefited Lake Lure.  Mayor Pritchett said that "we would not be all that we are for the community and for our visitors if not for Rutherford Bound.  Our partnership with the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority has enriched our tourism assets and allowed us to make several key enhancements in town over recent years.

For example, last year we were able to expand the Washburn Marina significantly and modernized this gorgeous floating boardwalk that extends from the Marina all the way to the Beach.  This year, our partnership and the matching funds from Rutherford Bound allowed us to rebuild the Lake Lure Gazebo seawall and the surrounding walkway.  Additionally, we have just completed the full length of the walkway with new pavers from the end of the FLoating Boardwalk all the way around to the other side of the Lake Lure Beach and Water Park.  It is now modernized and safe for all who walk this path every day."

Mr. Pritchett shared that "we have also benefited from a grant from Rutherford Bound that allowed us to expand parking in Buffalo Creek Park, allowing countless more visitors to access the park as well as Weed Patch Mountain Trail.

She added that "as we move forward with our partnership with Rutherford Bound, we look forward to expanding this Marina area, starting with the development of additional parking and then in time creating opportunities for a future restaurant and expanded retail space.

Mayor Pritchett noted that "Lake Lure is really going through a major renovation at present.  We are replacing our core infrastructure including the Lake Lure Dam and the Sewer System.  We are also working with AT&T to install a new cell tower which will expand cell service and internet access throughout most of Lake Lure. Although many people come to Lake Lure to completely unwind and unplug from technology.  And why wouldn’t you with the gorgeous lake for boating and fishing and the beach for swimming.

We also have Morse Park here, Pool Creek Picnic Park, the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge, as well as our new Green Space across from the Fire Station for walking, jogging bird watching, and picnics.

You can also enjoy Dittmer Watts Nature Trail, Young'ss Mountain Trail, Buffalo Creek Park, and Weed Patch Mountain Trail for those who are experienced hikers, bikers, or rock climbers.

We hope you will come for a visit and stay in lovely Lake Lure for your next vacation.  In addition to the 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa, there are many Vacation Rentals around Lake Lure and we have a variety of restaurants in town and around the Lake."
