Smoke Testing Continues - Week of 2/20/23

Smoke Testing Sign

Smoke testing is a process used by the Town of Lake Lure Public Works/Utilities to identify issues with the sewer system. Non-toxic smoke is blown into manholes and crews observe areas where smoke escapes identifying broken manholes, cracked lines, and illegal connections.

Smoke testing began in Lake Lure last week and the crew has proceeded to manhole number 8.  The smoke testing will continue down the line all this week.   Residents and visitors on the following roads may see smoke in their area: Moffitt Road, Buffalo Shoals Road, the area of Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure, Dogwood, and Holmstead. No land-based manholes are being tested at this time.

The Town of Lake Lure will be posting any necessary updates here on our website at www.townoflakelure.com. Any questions may be directed to Lake Lure Public Works/Utilities at 828-625-9983 x 201.

Note: Smoke should not enter homes or businesses unless the plumbing is not functioning properly or if it is rarely used. If the smoke does enter the home or business, please open a window to allow for ventilation, exit the building, and notify Town personnel at Lake Lure Public Works/Utilities at the number above. If you have any doubts about the origin of the smoke, please dial 911.

Thank you for your patience as this smoke testing is performed.
