Proactive Lake Lowering in Preparation for Forecasted Storms
The Town of Lake Lure will be lowering the lake slowly today in preparation for forecasted storms. Please secure your property.
The lake will be lowered a rate of .5 inch per hour, starting this evening (8-15-21) with a goal of decreasing to two feet below full pond. Staff will use both generators. This slow, calculated approach translates into maximum possible revenue being generated on the way down to 988.5 mean sea level (MSL), our targeted lake level. Starting slowly this evening will allow us to reach our target lake level by tomorrow afternoon as we generate revenue for the town. Please keep in mind that rains may fall between now and tomorrow afternoon and this will also impact lake levels. Stay tuned for further updates.
