Notification of Discharge of Untreated Wastewater General Statue 143-215.1c requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.

In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued in the affected county.

The Town of Lake Lure had a discharge of untreated wastewater on October 7th 2021 of an estimated 7906.5 gallons at the manhole located behind the pump station. The untreated wastewater was discharged into Broad River.

Town staff notified the Division of Water Resources of the event on the date if was identified, October 7th 2021. Town staff took immediate action to address this situation as soon as it was discovered.  The issue has been resolved in collaboration with the Division of Water Resources.
