NC Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (HART) Training April 24-25, 2023
Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Town of Lake Lure is pleased to announce that the NC Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (HART) will be conducting training at Chimney Rock State Park and the Rumbling Bald Climbing Access on Monday and Tuesday, April 24-25, 2023. The team will be performing several training evolutions with various emergency scenarios with the Lake Lure Town Hall serving as the Command Center. Morse Park will be utilized as a landing zone.
The following teams will participate in the training exercise:
- NC HART
- NC Emergency Management
- NC State Parks Service
- Lake Lure Fire/Emergency Management Department
The focus of this training exercise will be on gaining access to climbers or hikers that are injured in remote areas requiring extensive rescue efforts greater than four hours. Additionally, drills will include victims impacted by flood conditions. These simulated rescues will be conducted in daylight and at night.
This training exercise will be an invaluable benefit to the Lake Lure Fire Department/Emergency Management (LLFD/EM) Rescue Staff as this is an opportunity to train with an elite state aquatic rescue team. Furthermore, the exercise will help the team become familiar with the Hickory Nut Gorge area should the LLFD/EM seek their assistance with future emergency rescues.
