Rutherford County Emergency Management officials will conduct testing of our newly updated mass notification siren system beginning Wednesday, September 4th from 9:00am-12:00pm. The following communities will hear audible alarms during that time:
• Chimney Rock
• Lake Lure
• Areas along the Broad River – From the Rutherford/Henderson county line to Rock Springs Campground
• Baber Rd. - Union community
• Hopewell-Hollis community
• WV Thompson Rd.
• Danieltown
• Cliffside
This project has been made possible with the assistance & partnerships of the following towns & agencies: NC Emergency Management, Rutherford County Emergency Management, Rutherford County 911 Communications Center, Town of Chimney Rock, Town of Lake Lure, Town of Rutherfordton, Chimney Rock Fire Department NC, Lake Lure Fire and Rescue, Rutherfordton Fire & Rescue, Shiloh-Danieltown-Oakland VFD & Cliffside Area Fire & Rescue.
During the tests, Emergency Management officials & technicians will be exploring the functionality of the sirens. For example: “This is a test, this is a test of the Rutherford County emergency warning system, this is only a test. If this was an actual emergency, instructions would follow the alert.”
In the event of severe weather, testing will be postponed.
Residents with concerns about the siren test, the sirens operations or reports of siren malfunctions may contact Rutherford County Emergency Management at (828)288-3313.
