Hazardous Weather Outlook - Ice
The National Weather Service has issued the following Hazardous Weather Outlook for northeast Georgia, western
North Carolina and upstate South Carolina.
DAY ONE...Today and tonight - Precipitation will develop across the mountains after midnight, from
southwest to northeast, as temperatures fall down toward freezing. As a result, the precipitation may begin as a brief period of a wintry mix in the early morning hours, before a quick transition to either light rain or freezing rain depending on surface temperatures. A
light accumulation of ice of a few hundredths of an inch could develop on some elevated surfaces like tree limbs and power lines by daybreak on Tuesday. Small changes in precipitation amounts and temperatures could have a big impact on the event, and will determine if and where a Winter Weather Advisory will be issued later today.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday - Precipitation will increase in coverage and intensity on Tuesday morning as a low pressure system moves past. The precipitation is
expected to take the form of light freezing rain mainly near the Blue Ridge Escarpment early Tuesday morning, with a light accumulation possible before it changes over to rain as temperatures warm up by mid to late morning.
Please use extreme caution if driving at times and in shady locations where ice could form. Call 9-1-1 for all emergencies.
