Duke Energy Vegetation Management by Helicopter - Week of February 26, 2024

Photo of Duke Energy Tree Removal by Helicopter

As you are aware, Duke Energy is currently performing scheduled tree trimming from the Lake Lure Dam along Memorial Highway to Lake Lure Town Hall, and through Chimney Rock and Bat Cave.  This is the Duke Energy 1202 feeder.

There are portions of this feeder that are difficult to access from land.  Duke Energy is planning to deploy a helicopter to handle trimming these areas. There are 20 specific areas which have been identified with approximately 10 miles of line being trimmed. They expect the work to begin on Monday, February 26, 2024 and continue most of that week.

The operation will be fairly visible in and around Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Some of the areas with the most line being addressed include:

  • 2.73 miles on the Chairlift line behind Burntshirt Vineyards and up to Bald Mtn Road;
  • 1.5 miles from Bottomless Pools to Gene Stratton Dr;
  • 1 mile at Autumn View lane;
  • Several of the other areas are very short sections of line.
