Duke Energy Updates - Hurricane Season
It is hard to believe that Memorial Day weekend is here! The first five months of 2023 have been busy for Duke Energy. Please allow me to provide you an update on the work we are doing to support our communities and customers.
Duke Energy encourages customers to plan for active 2023 hurricane season
Memorial Day weekend is the traditional beginning of summer. It’s also the beginning of what forecasters predict will be an active hurricane season.
Duke Energy encourages its customers to prepare for hurricanes and other severe storms to protect their families and property during the hurricane season, which runs June 1 through Nov. 30.
Our Duke Energy team of meteorologists is currently predicting 17 named storms in the Atlantic Ocean including 10 hurricanes, three major hurricanes and four Gulf of Mexico storms.
An important part of our work throughout the year is to strengthen the power grid to reduce power outages. We also encourage customers to plan ahead and offer safety tips on our website. Storm Center - Duke Energy (duke-energy.com)
Duke Energy supports ‘Fantastic Fridays’ at KidSenses in Rutherfordton. The Duke Energy Foundation has given a $10,000 grant to support KidSenses Children’s Museum Fantastic Fridays free admission program “This grant from Duke Energy helps to ensure that all children are able to enjoy the Museum regardless of economic circumstances.”, said Willard Whitson, the Museum’s Executive Director. “We continually strive to minimize barriers and maximize visitation. Our Fantastic Fridays program provides free access the first Friday of each month. We are open extended hours on those days for working parents with full schedules.”
We are proud that WPSA came out and did several live remotes on May 15 to publicize the program. Fantastic exposure for KidSenses and the Town of Rutherfordton!
National Lineworker Appreciation Day illuminates the people behind the power. For lineworkers, weathering the storm is just another day on the job.
On April 18, Duke Energy celebrated National Lineworker Appreciation Day – an acknowledgment of the challenging work of utility lineworkers nationwide who are committed to keeping the lights on and readying the grid for a low-carbon future. Pictured with me is one of our local lineworkers who took time to talk to students about lineworker careers at Duke Energy.
Duke Energy supports lineworker training programs at community colleges around the state including Cleveland County Community College. Advance Your Skills - Lineworker Careers - Duke Energy (duke-energy.com)
