Buffalo Creek Road Closure Update

Buffalo Creek Road Washout 9/5/22

On Monday, September 5, 2022, there was a washout on Buffalo Creek Road, past the Fairfield Mountains Volunteer Fire Department between South Drive and Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure. A detour has been established as repairs are made. 

The NC Department of Transportation (NC DOT) is currently getting the utilities located in preparation for the repair.  They are mobilizing equipment to the site this week.  The repair will include replacing the cross-pipe, restoring the roadway slope, and replacing the asphalt surface/curb.  The repair will require a few days of dry weather to perform the work.  If the current weather forecast holds, they hope to be able to begin work next week. 

Their goal is to restore traffic on Buffalo Creek Road as soon as possible.
