Buffalo Creek Park Planning, Preparation, and Updates

Buffalo Creek Park and Upper Boulders Trail Reroute Planning 1 3-31-2025

On Monday, March 31st, 2025, the Town of Lake Lure partnered with the Carolina Climbers Coalition, Conserving Carolina, and Rutherford Outdoor Coalition to plan a trail reroute to reconnect the Buffalo Creek Park public parking lot back to the trail. They also planned out the trail section that will need to be installed to reconnect the Buffalo Creek Park Trail to the Upper Boulders Trail. The previous connection was destroyed by a landslide. The Carolina Climbers Coalition’s C4 trail crew also cleared more trees from the Buffalo Creek Park loop on this day.

Construction of these planned reroutes, as well as a path to reconnect the public parking lot for Buffalo Creek Park to the parking lot inside Rumbling Bald, should begin soon. The Buffalo Creek Park Trail, Weed Patch Mountain Trail, and Upper Boulders Trail are all currently closed, but we are working hard to reopen portions of these trails as soon as possible.  Please stay tuned for updates.

Thank you to everyone that helped with planning and repairs on these trails. If you want to help on future trail workdays, please contact Dana Bradley at dbradley@townoflakelure.com or call 828-625-9983 ext. 502
