Lake Lure, N.C. (WCIV) — Why in the world would we drive four hours to go to a beach? We live on some of the most beautiful beaches in the eastern United States.
The simple answer is because our beaches don't look like Lake Lure Beach and Waterpark.
Our beaches also don't have the activities that they do. Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, literally, in the shadows of Chimney Rock, lies a perfect beach on Lake Lure.
Sun chairs, sand, temperate water are all there- but there was so much more.
Some of the attractions include large water slides that drain out into the 70-degree water, a splash pad and splash park for the younger kids, roped-off swim areas with lifeguards, boating, eating, and most importantly, ample parking!
It's cost-efficient at only $9 per person to enjoy a day on the beach, in the mountains.
Those we spoke to also highly recommended the small town of Lake Lure, less than a mile down the road. Stores, restaurants, and breweries dot the main street, making for a perfect "post-beach" venture.
The beach has locker rooms and changing areas, and the views are simply breathtaking.
It's certainly someplace to spend an afternoon, or more, right on Lake Lure in western North Carolina.
