2024 Lead Service Inventory

During 2024, the Town of Lake Lure contracted to have a Lead Service Inventory conducted by LaBella Associates.  The results of this inventory as well as descriptors of each material classification for all Town pipes is posted below.  You may download the inventory results hereFrom Left-To-Right the spreadsheet includes the following: Address, Material classification from water main to water meter (System-Owned), material classification from water meter to building (Customer-Owned), Entire Service Line Classification according to the EPA’s rules and regulations.

Property owners received notification letters based on their Service Line Classification as identified in the inventory spreadsheet. A link to the respective notices that were mailed out is linked below. 

These are the Service Line Classifications:

  • Galvanized Requiring Replacement (GRR) Notice

    • A portion of the water pipe that connects the building to the water main is made from galvanized material and may have absorbed lead.
    • The EPA has defined these service lines as “Galvanized Pipe Requiring Replacement”
    • Galvanized service lines may have absorbed lead and could contribute to lead in drinking water.
    • Steps to reduce lead, health effects, and general information were included in the letter (linked above) that was mailed to property owners with Galvanized Pipe Requiring Replacement. (Linked above.)
  • Lead Service Line Notice

    • A portion of the water pipe that connects the building to the water main is made from lead.
    • People who are served by a lead service line may have an increased risk of exposure to lead from their drinking water.
    • Health effects, steps to reduce lead exposure, and general information about lead were included in the letter (linked above) that was mailed to property owners with Lead Service Pipes.
  • Unknown Notice

    • Properties identified as Unknown – Lead Unlikely are identified as such because the material is unknown but the building date on file was after lead was banned.
    • Properties identified as Unknown – Material Unknown are identified as such because the excavation company could not get to the service line for inspection.
    • Steps and guidelines on how the property owner can identify the Service Line Material were included in the letter (linked above) that was mailed to property owners with Unknown Pipe Materials.
