Lake Lure Boater Safety Course and Test

The Lake Lure Boater Safety Course has been developed to enhance boater safety on Lake Lure. The course is based on the latest Lake Use Regulations.  An accompanying Boater Safety Video has also been developed.

You may scroll down the page to "Supporting Documents" to download the course.  This course is the foundational resource for a new Boater Safety Test that has also been developed to help promote safety on Lake Lure. Passing the Boater Safety test and receiving a Lake Lure Boaters License is a requirement for operating a motorized boat on Lake Lure. Any vessel with a motor is considered a motorized boat. It is encouraged for those purchasing a Lake Lure Boat Permit.

You may take the Boater Safety Test online. Boater Safety Test tracking and licensing procedures are being overseen by the Parks, Recreation, and Lake Department.

ALTERNATE TEST FORMATS: For those wishing to take the test in another format, you may call the Parks, Recreation, and Lake Department at 828-625-9983 x 505 or email the department to obtain a copy of the test.

You may also stop by any of the locations listed below during regular business hours to take the Boater Safety Course and Test and obtain your Boaters License.

Alternate Testing Options - Boater License and Permitting Locations

You may stop by any of the locations listed below during regular business hours to take the Boater Safety Course and to purchase a 2023 Boat Permit. Please note the types of Boat Permits sold at each location.

1) Parks, Recreation, and Lake Department Office:

    Boat Permits Available: All Boat Permits are available for purchase, including Commercial Boat Permits.  

    Note: If you are purchasing a Residential Boat Permit, please bring in proof of residency, a deed, or bill with your name and address. 

    Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday from 8 am to 12 pm, 1 pm to 5 pm (closed 12 -1 pm for lunch)

2) Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure Cabana (Rumbling Bald Residents and Visitors only)

     Boat Permits Available: Only Non-motorized Daily Boat Permits are available for purchase. All other permits issued at Rumbling Bald are handled through member services.
