Town Council Special Meeting Updates - May 27, 2021

1) FY2021-2022 Budget:  The FY 2021 Proposed Budget was approved.  (Download the Proposed Town of Lake Lure Balanced Budget Message for Fiscal Year 2021-2022 )

2) Lake Drawdown: A decision was made to lower the lake for a 5 month period for maintenance and dredging.

Mayor Carol Pritchett advised that on 11/1/21 the lake will begin to be dropped down by approximately 1 foot per day until it is down 12 feet. The Lake will continue to be down over the winter months to allow other things to be accomplished like manhole rehabilitation. Mayor Pritchett stated, "We’re trying to be as efficient as we can while the Lake is down. It is always our goal to end before the season begins in spring. This schedule projects the Lake being drawn down about 5 months and has to happen to begin to accomplish the sewer, dredging, and Dam projects. We ask for indulgence and support and will give the schedule as soon as we can each year. There is always a chance for an emergency draw down throughout the year as well. We want to make sure we can generate as much as we can and juggle that with the Lake going up and down. We don’t have a lot of latitude in making these decisions."

The Lake Drawdown is scheduled for 11/1/21 to 4/22/22.  Please stay tuned for additional details.
