Be Careful-Beware of Ice sign

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON...The National Weather Service posted the following on 1/6/24 at 4:00AM.  This is a great day to stay in if you can! If you must go out, please be careful and look out for ice!

* WHAT: Significant icing. Additional ice accumulations of around one quarter of an inch.

* WHERE: Transylvania, Henderson, Rutherford Mountains and Polk Mountains Counties.

* WHEN: Until 1 PM EST this afternoon.

* IMPACTS: Difficult travel conditions are possible.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Most of the ice accumulation is expected to be on tree limbs and power lines, but some untreated bridges and overpasses could also be slippery. The highest amounts are expected across the area between US highway 64 and the Blue Ridge Escarpment. A light accumulation of snow and sleet is possible at elevations above 3500 feet as well. The precipitation should end by early afternoon.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of ice accumulations will make travel dangerous or impossible. Travel is strongly discouraged. Commerce will likely be severely impacted. If you must travel, keep a flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle
in case of an emergency. Ice accumulations and winds will likely lead to snapped power lines and falling tree branches that add to the danger. Prepare for possible power outages.
